Abstract

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the treatment experience drawn from treatment of elderly patients with cholecystitis by ultrasound-guided percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage (PTGD) .Methods a retrospective analysis of the clinical data of 25 cases of elderly patients with acute suppurative cholecystitis who accepted the treatment of PTGD between August 2010 to March 2011.Results All the 25 cases were performed successfully.Only one 87-year old patient died of multiple organ failure seven days after PTGD operation.The remaining 24 patients underwent elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy 2 weeks to 2 months after PTCD operation, while 3 cases were transferred to laparotomy, and there were no death of patients after laparotomy.Conclusion PTGD was a safe, simple and effective procedure for the treatment of elderly patients with suppurative cholecystitis.
