Objective To evaluate the level of D-dimer as a predictive indicator of portal vein thrombosis (PVT) in liver cirrhosis patients.Methods A total of 83 liver cirrhosis patients were studied prospectively. A change in the level of D-dimer was analyzed.Results The level of D-dimer in PVT patients was significantly higher than the non-PVT patients. The possibility of PVT increased with the increase in D-dimer level.Conclusion Active monitoring of D-dimer levels in patients with portal hypertension could help in early diagnosis of PVT.
