To investigate the effects of Acanthophopanax Senticosus (ASS) on inducing apoptosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells. The effects of ASS on cell cycle and apoptosis rate of HCC cells were observed with flow cytometry assays, and Retinoic acid (RA) was used as the control drug. The results showed both ASS and RA might inhibit DNA synthesis of HCC cells, and apoptosis rate induced by ASS is significantly higher than that induced by RA. It is suggested that ASS could induce apoptosis of HCC cells. it is necessary to study further the therapeutic value of ASS on HCC.
