Abstract:Living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) is the most effective method available for treating patients with end-stage liver disease; however, the small-for-size syndrome (SFSS) is one of the clinical complications with the highest rates of morbidity and mortality after adult living donor liver transplantation. SFSS remains one of the principal factors restricting the progress of liver transplantation. Recently, extensive research efforts have focused on developing methods to prevent and treat SFSS. This article reviews the current progress that has been made in understanding SFSS pathophysiology, its risk factors, and methods of prevention and treatment.
